2011 Association Meetings Summary

December 12, 2011 in Board of Directors

The last of our 2011 meetings concluded on Thursday, December 6th from 6pm to 7:30 pm at the 36th Street Bistro meeting room.  We had an influx of new neighbors this meeting and want to thank everyone who showed up to share their interests and get to know others in our neighborhood. Everyone introduced themselves and discussed their interests.  The collective interests of the group are summarized as follows:

  • planning and zoning issues, smart growth, pedestrian safety, bike routes, bike safety, and how the 30th street extension will be affecting our neighborhood traffic patterns
  • dogs – off leash, park use, etc.
  • community gardens,  local food
  • watershed issues
  • disaster preparedness, self sufficiency, energy alternatives

The new Agricultural Guidelines were briefly reviewed and will be posted to the Sunset Gardeners section of the forums

This new version of the Sunset Neighborhood Association was designed to foster communication through forums about these issues.

Our Election meeting was held on Thursday, September 8 2011 from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the 36th Street Bistro meeting room.  As we did not have a minimum of 25 neighbors present, the board has remained as is with Sherilyn Orr as president, Shane Lowe as Vice President, and Cindy Fusselmann as treasurer.

Our Summer meeting was held Thursday June 9th at the 36th Street Bistro meeting room.  We reviewed Sunset Community Garden efforts and Sunset Park's test situation for off leash dog hours, which are currently set daily from dawn to 10am.  The trial period is expected to extend trhough at least April of 2012.

Our Spring meeting held Thursday March 10 2011 from 6pm to 7:30pm at the 36th Street Bistro meeting room. We discussed a doggie doo cleanup morning for Sunset Park that was planned for April, and quite a few neighbors attended to make that event a success. We also discussed Block Party Plans, several neighbors mentioned interest in block parties.  The process of contacting ACHD to request permission to close the street was discussed.
